Webber, who had his hands and legs amputated as an infant, stopped his car and shot the front-seat passenger. He then fled the scene, leaving the victim in the vehicle. Webber asked the two passengers in the back seat to help him remove the body. The body of the victim, 27-year-old Bradrick Michael Wells, was later found in a backyard. According to police, Webber was wanted in Virginia on charges of premeditated murder. In 2023, ESPN aired an inspiring report on him, where he discussed his life before becoming a professional athlete. That same year, he wrote an essay for the Today show explaining how he learned to toss the beanbag using his stumps.
